Alaska in Photos: Adventures in the Last Frontier

Alaska In Photos - Live Recklessly

Way back in August, Tom and I went to Alaska! But you probably didn’t know that, because until now I’ve barely said a word about it – apart from quick mentions when I discussed my love of America’s national parks and my highlights of 2016.

Alaska was absolutely a highlight of 2016. It will definitely be a highlight of my life, even when I look back decades from now.

The Last Frontier proved to be an epic two week adventure. But while we barely scratched the surface of the 49th state, we had so much fun trying as much as we could: snorkelling in the freezing waters of Ketchikan, exploring Tongass National Forest, cycling the Klondike Highway, kayaking through Kenai Fjords National Park and hiking beside Denali, the tallest peak in North America.

I still can’t believe I saw whales, grizzly bears, moose and otters up close – it was like living a David Attenborough documentary. Or that I watched massive glaciers break apart and drop into the ocean right before my eyes. Or walked through dense rainforest just dripping in bright green moss.

Alaska in Photos is a brief look at our adventures before i delve into the depths of the journey here on the blog.

I’ve got (quite literally) thousands of photos to review and edit, but in the meantime here’s the highlights reel. Stay tuned for more Alaska content, plus advice to help you plan your own adventure!

    1. Thanks Alice! It really is magical – Alaska knows how to take your breath away!

  2. Alaska is so gorgeous! My husband has been, but we want to go back! Your photos definitely do it justice 🙂

    1. Thanks Ashlyn! I think Alaska is one of those places I could return to over and over again without running out of things to do. The most beautiful place I have ever been!

  3. Alaska is a dream, isn’t it! I only spent a week there, but would love to go back. Maybe not snorkeling, though, sounds cold!

    1. It so is! There is so much more of Alaska that I would love the opportunity to experience, and hopefully I’ll get the opportunity to one day. Surprisingly the snorkeling wasn’t too chilly as we had wet suits, gloves, a head cap and booties before we put flippers on. So we all looked super stylish 🙂

  4. Alaska is my favorite! Last year I finished visiting all 50 US States and I always recommend Alaska as #1! There’s still so much more I want to explore even though I spent several months up there. These are some seriously incredible pics! 😀

    1. Wow – visiting all 50 states is a huge achievement! I think the universal struggle with travel is there is always more to see -but it keeps me inspired to keep getting out there!

  5. Wow this looks awesome, makes me want to visit right now. I love wildlife and that otter is so cute 🙂

    1. Thanks Becky! I hope you’re able to make it to Alaska someday soon!
