Ever have one of those days when your head isn’t in the game?
Ever start singing High School Musical whenever you hear the phrase ‘head in the game’? No? Just me? And also probably Zac Efron, I imagine.
Today was one of those days. I stared at my laptop screen for hours – all morning really, if I’m being honest.
Searching for words. Constantly refilling my coffee cup in the hope that my inability to focus or form sentences would be cured through caffeine. But, as I should have expected, the only thing the coffee brought me was an intense need to pee.
These type of days drive me utterly mad, because somehow I convince myself that if I just sit at my desk long enough, I’ll get the work done. It’s like modern day Chinese Water Torture except the end result is square eyes, terrible posture, and a solid knowledge of everything that happened at last night’s Grammys (FYI Beyonce remains a goddess and Adele doesn’t like her father very much).
But today was different, because today I saw sense. The sun was shining, the sky was blue – in February mind you – and that alone is an opportunity not to be missed!
So I jumped in the car and headed to Deception Pass State Park. I didn’t really plan to hike one of my favourite trails, but instead wander, soak up some Vitamin D and appreciate epic views of the Olympic Peninsula, which I was sure would be out on a day like today (it was!).
The lesson I learned: sometimes I just have to step away. Get some fresh air. Walk by the ocean. Belt out some Dolly Parton in the car.
Here are a few snaps from my sanity break.
So this is what I did today. Productive? Not really. But sunshine and fresh air is so much better than torture.
What do you do when you can’t get focussed? Asking for a friend…
